They are “middle-of-the-road” cats.
Neither too big or small,
nor over cuddly or distant, neither couch potatoes nor
hyperactive. They enjoy being in your lap, but not in your face.
They will happily follow their owners from room to room, but
will get there on their own steam, as they generally do not like
to be picked up and are known as “four-on-the-ground” cats.
They are known for their quiet voices. Some will communicate in
sweet chirps and squeaks and some will open their mouths to meow
with no sound coming out, known as the silent meow.
While today’s ASH should be able to hunt, as they are working
cats, most are far to busy being lap cats to be bothered by such
a mundane task as mousing........they do prefer toys that
challenge their hunting and chasing instincts.
The ASH is very sociable, gentle, and affectionate and is known
for developing devoted attachment to their owners. They get
along well with dogs and other animals and are very gentle with
children and love to play with them.
The ASH is a very healthy cat and with proper care will enjoy
long life spans, generally between 15 and 20 years.
